San Diego May 1st Coalition Vehemently Condemns the recent killings by Border Patrol Forces
Progressive Coalition Joins the Call in Demanding Justice for Anastasio Hernandez Rojas and Sergio Adrian Hernandez Huereka
This Saturday, June 26 at 1pm we will be at the downtown Federal building to protest the tide of anti-immigrant hatred, demanding justice and criminal prosecutions for the brutal killings of Anastasio Hernadez Rojas and Sergio Adrian Hernandez Huereka at the hands of Border Patrol forces. Anastasio, a husband and father of five, was brutally beaten to death by the border patrol at the San Diego-Mexico Border on May 28, 2010. In a different but fundamentally connected incident on June 7, 2010 A Border Patrol Agent shot and killed 15 year-old Sergio Adrian Hernandez across El Paso, Texas border.
On June 22 coalition members joined students from Lincoln High School as they stood outside Border Patrol headquarters in Chula Vista demanding justice for Anastasio and Sergio. The San Diego May 1st Coalition stands in solidarity with the Lincoln High Students and all those willing to resist State Terror. We applaud the determination of the Lincoln High students to stand under the summer heat demanding justice and an end to border violence at the hands of the Border Patrol.
These crimes by the state are becoming normalized because of recent anti-immigrant policy like the racist SB 1070 of Arizona. Even Obama is furthering the criminalization of immigrants by agreeing to send 1,200 additional National Guard Troops to the border. The criminalization of immigrants is creating a racist-xenophobic climate that puts immigrants at risk of having violent acts done upon them.
The San Diego May 1st Coalition calls upon the people of San Diego to stand up against the oppressive state forces that separate families and inhumanely treat undocumented immigrants. We call upon the people to stand on the side of justice as we demand criminal prosecutions for these brutal killings. We will continue the fight on behalf of Anastasio, Sergio, and all immigrants regardless of status.
